The Rogers E-Dock

Dear Friends & Family,

I wanted to update you on how things are here in Uganda.  Things have gone well in the neighborhood since our thief encounter.  Last week we received news that the thief died in the hospital after almost two weeks.  We thank you for your prayers.  God has amazingly protected us in all this.  We are also grateful to God that our neighbors still seem quite open and friendly.

The last couple weeks have been busy with flying as I am completing my checkout in the Cessna Caravan (208).  I completed my last flight with an instructor yesterday and will have my first solo flight in the Caravan on Friday.  If I haven't mentioned it before the Caravan is an ideal bush plane which can carry up to 10 passengers.  It is quite a bit larger than the 206 that I was flying as well as a bit faster.  I've attached a couple pictures including the kids playing on Daddy's "new" airplane.

If you have been following the news recently you might have noticed a few reports of violence in the North East DRC.  This has not affected most of the areas we fly to and has not compromised safety.  The fighting is between Tutsi militia, Hutu militia, and the Government army (FARDC).  Unfortunately, this has continued to destabilize the area north of Goma, sending many villages fleeing for their lives.  Many have fled into nearby parts of Congo, Uganda, and possibly Rwanda.  Goma is a city on the border of Rwanda, and close to the border of Uganda.  We do occasionally fly to Goma, but the fighting has not affected our flying since the city of Goma is well protected by the government military and the UN.  Please continue to pray for a quick end to this fighting and that the militias would give up their arms.

Amy has been busy with school, caring for the kids, and leading the children's church.  She has volunteer to take her position with children's church when we go on furlough next July, so she will be training this young man over the next few months.  Please be praying that this church will continue to put the children first in their ministry.  Our main concern is that when we leave they will just go back to getting by with children and not emphasizing good classes and education for them.

Thank you again for your prayers and support.  They are a blessing each day as we minister for Him.

For His Glory,

Dave, Amy, Daniel, & Emma
