Struggling Mormons
- A major issue we face up
here in Utah is the betrayal
many feel once a member
discovers that they were not
told the complete truth when
it comes to their Mormon
faith. Aaron forwarded to me
the following post that he
found on a web site for
ex-Mormons that speaks to
this issue:
“I was so shocked and
surprised at what I found,
first about Joseph having so
many wives other than Emma,
which I had NEVER heard
about, despite the millions
of hours of Sunday School
classes I’d attended by
then, and then I started
researching the temple and
that just really freaked me
out, and since then I have
read everything that I can
find about the truth behind
the Mormon church, and I
just hate it and hate all
the lies that I’ve been
told, and led to believe,
since I was in Primary.”
Sadly, many of those who
experience this tend to
drift towards agnosticism or
atheism. To help counteract
this we are getting ready to
post a new page at mrm.org
that deals specifically with
what we call the “struggling
Mormon.” It will offer not
only words of comfort and
encouragement, but resources
that are available that will
help them see that biblical
Christianity is a viable
faith that needs not be
discarded just because
Mormonism failed to live up
to expected standards.
Continue to pray for Scott
-
I mentioned in my last
prayer letter how I met an
ex-Mormon attorney at the
recent Ex-Mormon Conference
in Salt Lake City. Like
many, Scott has become a
professed agnostic since
leaving the LDS faith. A few
weeks ago I purchased a copy
of Timothy Keller’s
The Reason for God,
wrapped it up, and sent it
to him. Pray with me that he
finds an opportunity to read
it.
Have a very blessed
Christmas! -
We are looking forward to
tomorrow morning and the
arrival of our son Jamin,
daughter Kendra, our
son-in-law Mike, and our
five grandsons. Kristen,
Myke, and our other three
grandkids live just minutes
away so needless to say, it
will be a full house here on
Christmas day. Tammy and I
want to thank you for your
prayers and support and wish
you our best as we celebrate
the birth of our Lord and
Savior. 2009 will certainly
offer many challenges, but
God’s faithfulness in the
past leaves us no reason to
believe He will not be
faithful in the future.
